Friends Coffeehouse: Monarca Duo – Classical Guitar Music from Around the World
In the same way that the Monarch butterfly’s migratory path and beauty transcend national boundaries, the newly formed Monarca Duo builds bridges and crosses cultural divides with its international repertoire. From Vienna to Mexico, classical guitarists Keyla Mejia and Joshua Nakama will take you across the globe in the one language we all share – music.
Mexican guitarist Keyla Mejia has performed as a soloist and with chamber music groups in both Mexico and the U.S. After her studies at the Music Conservatory of the University of Veracruz, Keyla was invited to participate in Hartt School’s performance program 20/20. She is currently pursuing a BA in music at Hartt and has been developing a project to provide high quality music education to underprivileged children in Mexico.
Joshua Nakama is a soloist and chamber musician in the Hartford area. He received his Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from the Hartt School and has performed with the highly selective and competitive program Hartt@Home. Joshua has performed music for flute and guitar, soprano and guitar, guitar quartet, and many large guitar ensembles throughout the U.S. and Japan.
Doors open at 7:30 PM and the program ends by 9:30. Reserve a seat now!
